The nine patients in Jaipur are all family members who recently returned from a trip to South Africa.

A 37-year-old Tanzanian man landed in Delhi earlier today after testing positive for the Omicron strain.

Officials claimed they were aware of a case in Rajasthan and many incidents in Delhi. Individual state governments will offer further information.

The first two cases of Omicron in India were reported in Karnataka earlier this week. Gujarat and Maharashtra, respectively, were the sites of the other two incidents. According to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the number of Omicron incidents in Maharashtra has increased to eight with the inclusion of seven more cases. The Chief Minister has addressed a letter to the Prime Minister expressing similar thoughts.

The WHO has classified Omicron, which was originally discovered in South Africa on November 25, as a “variant of concern.”

All travelers from at-risk countries are thoroughly screened and tested at international airports across India. All passengers from these countries are required to take RT-PCR testing upon arrival, according to federal rules. To depart the airport, the test result must be negative.

All 44 European countries, as well as South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel, have been recognized as “at-risk” countries.

Researchers are still investigating if Omicron is more dangerous and whether current immunizations can protect against it.
